An international transplant conference this week in Australia will hear startling findings from David Matas, the co-author of the "Bloody Harvest" report. His speech will be an update to the widely publicized investigation into organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China. NTD's Sheridan Harvey has more.
Traveling all around the country on a mission to expose and help stop human rights violations in China, David Matas has met with people from all walks of society.
In Sydney the group Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting are holding forums. They say David's visit coincinding with an International Transplant Congress is a good opportunity for transplants surgeons from around the world to hear about his evidence.
[Winston Hewitt, U.S. Transplant Surgeon]:
"The fact that these organs may be solely procured for money at least hospital driven, that the hospital has driven it solely for money - is abhorrent. It's a crime."
After listening to a forum, an Olympic swimmer who competed at the 2004 Games is touched by David's work.
[Michelle Engelsman, Former Olympic Swimmer]:
"I'm incredibly inspired by what he's doing; I'm understanding that is paying for this trip out of his own pocket, and that he's received death threats, that he's still going about it out because of his conscience and wanting to share this information is truly inspiring and just a fantastic role model to all of us."
Matas says he and co-author David Kilgour are determined to spread their message.
[David Matas, Human Rights Lawyer]:
"We're doing this out of a sense of commitment. I mean once we wrote the report and came to the conclusion that these human rights violations were occurring, we're both human rights activists and felt that we really had to do something to end the abuse. And the reality is nobody much else is doing that, so it really fell to us to work on this"

Related information:
Sir Harold Malcolm Watts Sargent (29 April 1895 -- 3 October 1967) was an English conductor, organist and composer widely regarded as Britain's leading conductor of choral works.[1] The musical ensembles with which he was associated included the Ballets Russes, the Royal Choral Society, the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, and the London Philharmonic, Hallé, Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and Royal Philharmonic orchestras.
As chief conductor of London's internationally famous summer music festival the Proms from 1948 to 1967, Sargent was one of the best-known English conductors.[2] His fame extended beyond the concert hall: to the British public, he was a familiar broadcaster in BBC radio talk shows, and generations of Gilbert and Sullivan devotees have known his recordings of the most popular Savoy Operas. Sargent toured widely throughout the world and was noted for his skill as a conductor, his debonair appearance, and his championship of British composers.
Musical reputation and repertoire
Toscanini, Beecham and many others regarded Sargent as the finest choral conductor in the world.[61] Even orchestral musicians gave him credit: the principal violist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra wrote of him, "He is able to instil into the singers a life and efficiency they never dreamed of. You have only to see the eyes of a choral society screwing into him like hundreds of gimlets to understand what he means to them."[62] Although orchestral players resented Sargent for much of his career after the 1936 interview,[63] instrumental soloists generally liked working with him. The cellist Pierre Fournier called him a "guardian angel" and compared him favourably with George Szell and Herbert von Karajan. Artur Schnabel, Jascha Heifetz and Yehudi Menuhin thought similarly highly of him.[64] Cyril Smith wrote in his autobiography, "...he seems to sense what the pianist wants of the music even before he begins to play it.... He has an incredible speed of mind, and it has always been a great joy, as well as a rare professional experience, to work with him."[65] For this reason, among others, Sargent was continually in demand as a conductor for concertos.[66]
The Times obituary said Sargent, "was of all British conductors in his day the most widely esteemed by the lay public... a fluent, attractive pianist, a brilliant score-reader, a skilful and effective arranger and orchestrator... as a conductor his stick technique was regarded by many as the most accomplished and reliable in the world.... [H]is taste... was moulded by the Victorian cathedral tradition into which he was born." It commented that, in his later years, his interpretations of the standard classical and romantic repertoire were "prepared... down to the last detail" but sometimes "unexuberant", though his performances of "the music composed within his lifetime... remained lucid and continually compelling."[35] The flute player Gerald Jackson wrote, "I feel that [Walton] conducts his own music as well as anyone else, with the possible exception of Sargent, who of course introduced and always makes a big thing of Belshazzar's Feast."[65]
The composers whose works Sargent regularly conducted included, from the eighteenth century, J. S. Bach, Handel, Gluck, Mozart and Haydn; and from the nineteenth century, Beethoven, Berlioz, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Smetana, Sullivan and Dvořák. From the twentieth century, British composers in his repertoire included Bliss, Britten, Delius, Elgar (a favourite, especially Elgar's oratorios The Dream of Gerontius, The Apostles and The Kingdom and symphonies),[65] Holst, Tippett, Vaughan Williams and Walton. With the exception of the Berg Violin Concerto, Sargent avoided the works of the Second Viennese School but programmed works by Bartók, Dohnányi, Hindemith, Honneger, Kodály, Martinů, Poulenc, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Richard Strauss, Stravinsky and Szymanowski.[67]

Something historic this time, the gigantic Walcker/Sauer organ built for the Kongressehalle Nurnburg in 1936. This organ, Opus 2550, was by far the biggest instrument Walcker built (5 manuals, 220 ranks and 16013 pipes), and due to the highly unrealistic timescale of the party elite, Sauer were enlisted to help. The organ was destoryed along with the hall during allied bombing raids.
There were a few interesting stipluations included in the organ contract, one of these forbade the organ to impress its listeners with its beauty, rather to bring out 'the spirit of the Reichsparty'. Its main task was to accompany singing at the mass meetings through loudspeakers, despite the size and power of the instrument, they thought it necessary to amplify it! As the pictures show it was on an epic scale, although there were plans to increase its size still further.
This recording must be the only one in existence demonstrating the organ, probably recorded soon after its completion. I found this track quite by chance here www.walckerorgel.de/gewalcker.de/opusdiabolo.htm. Also read this for more info in English www.walckerorgel.de/gewalcker.de/PDF_public/articlel_walcker.pdf
I don't know the piece being played here, but presume its something suitably 'teutonic', if anyone recognises the piece can you let me know? I also presume it was played by the music director, Eduard Kissel.

Frederick Hohman performs the first movement of Georg Frideric Handel's Organ Concerto in F, Opus 4 #4, in a solo organ transcription made by William Thomas Best, upon the 1969 Noel Mander organ located in the Christopher Wren designed sanctuary church of St. Mary Aldermanbury, which was originally located in London, and which was reconstructed in the 1960s on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, USA.
The organ in the gallery of this Christopher Wren sanctuary was commissioned from noted English organ-builder Noel Mander. The organ employs an authentic period English organ case, and the organ contains some pipework dating from the early 18th-century, during a time when Handel had been active as a musician in England.
The Winston Churchill Memorial and Library in the United States is a noteworthy tourist attraction in central Missouri, USA. In the area that originally served as the undercroft of the church sanctuary, one can find the permanent archives and exhibits of the Winston Churchill Memorial. The organ selection seen in this video is a part of a 30-minute episode of the Midnight Pipes television series, of which Frederick Hohman (organist seen in this video) was the principal artist and host. This episode was recorded in July, 1996.
The selection heard in this video is also heard on a PRO ORGANO CD recording made by Frederick Hohman in March, 1994, entitled "The English Connection." This CD is still in print and may be acquired from several retail sources, including Amazon.com. Full product and purchase details may be accessed by entering the CD catalog number 7029 in the Search Box at http://www.zarex.com/bin .
The VHS Hi-Fi NTSC video of this complete episode from the Midnight Pipes series is still available. Details may be accessed by entering the product code 9006 in the Search Box at http://www.zarex.com/bin .
Frederick Hohman was elected to become a Churchill Fellow and was inducted on 29 March 1998 at a ceremony held in the same location as seen in this video.

I'm a little out of practice and didn't feel like opening up the hymnal the day I recorded this so bare with the choppy playing and slip ups. This is an Allen Digital Organ with Quad Suite (imitating, English Cathedral, Neo-Baroque, French Romantic, and American Classic organs)
I find that the organ provides good a way relieve stress. My sight reading is rusty.
To fellow organists who like to gloat at how good they are:
Don't leave a comment if it's not in the least bit constructive! I am NOT professionally trained on the organ, and I am very rusty with sight reading. The whole purpose of my playing is for practicing, and my reason for posting even with mistakes is so that I can learn more from people who have expertise in the art of organ performance.

Here's a little tribute to the funky B-3 sounds of the 60's and early 70's as they used to be played by artists like Jimmy McGriff, Groove Holmes, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Reuben Wilson and countless others (each in their own unique style.) - - One of my major influences in picking up the organ was James Brown's own SMASH label recordings from the 1960's in which he played B-3 but didn't sing.
The drum track is actually from an old CD of mine... (Back track from "GET WICKED" on my THEM THAT SWINGETH CD.) The drummer is Rudy Petschauer from Jack McDuff's heating station... maybe not a household name, but up there with the best of the best pocket drummers.
oh in case you're wondering:
I'm playing a NORD C-1... Both it and the drum track are run into a "midi interface" which was then run directly into the camera. There is no Leslie speaker, no edits, no special effects... the sound you hear is raw and unprocessed. - - The changes, of course, are Blues in Bb.

After more than three decades concertizing as church organist, my recitals were curtailed in 2004 due to a handicapping "low vision" eye condition. Yesterday, nearly three years later, I persevered to return to the concert venue with a full program of English organ works performed on a 60-rank instrument in Richmond, Virginia. This is an sample of William Boyce ... his Larghetto and Allegro from the Voluntary #4 in G Minor.

Dall Wilson's adaptation of Hallgrimur's Passion-Hymns played on the 19th-century Henry Erben pipe organ by Jared Lamenzo at Old St. Patrick's Cathedral, NYC's SoHo at 263 Mulberry St.
Order the Passion-Hymns at http://stores.lulu.com/dallwilson
The Passion-Hymns, the 1657 Icelandic Easter Saga, were set to music of fifty Moravian hymn-tunes. Dall Wilson adapted it to English for concert performance.
Hallgrimur combined traditions of the Icelandic Saga Poet and the Moravian singing-service to create his Easter musical. Moravians, the Unitas Fratrum, published the first hymnal in Europe and grew from the Orthodox current of the Christian ocean with a motto, "Unity, Liberty, Love." Hallgrimur was a Lutheran Pastor. The gorgeous Erben organ at Old St. Patrick's Catholic Cathedral is ideal for these stately hymns and its healing message which unites Christian life. Old St. Patrick's NYC was the first St. Patrick's built in America.
