A Japanese television network has filmed what they believe to be the longest recorded flight of a flying fish. The camera crew were aboard a ferry off Japan's Kagoshima prefecture.

The flying fish flew along side the ferry for 45 seconds as it cruised at about 30 kilometers per hour.
Local experts say this is likely to be "the longest recorded flight'.

In theory, the fish could stay aloft for more than a minute. The previous record in the 1920s was of 42 seconds.

Flying fish are believed to have evolved gliding skills to evade attacks from predators such as tuna and dolphins.

An NHK camera crew has captured a flying fish traveling through the air for 45 seconds, in what could be a new world record.

The footage was taken on Monday, from a ferry near Kuchino-erabu island in Kagoshima prefecture, southwestern Japan.

The fish flew alongside a ferry that was traveling at roughly 30 kilometers per hour. The fish was able to continue flying by occasionally beating the surface of the water with its tail-fin when its flight height became low.

An expert says the flight time beats the previous record of 42 seconds reported by an American researcher in the 1920s. He says the flight of 45 seconds must be close to the fish's biological limit, as brachial respiration is impossible while flying in air.

The Special Attack Forces, known as "Kamikaze" in the West (God knows why) are called "tokkou" in Japan, which means, "Special Attack."

Chiran is a small town in Kagoshima Prefecture. This town was the host to the airfield which holds the record of having the largest number of pilots in the entire Japanese Empire where Special Attack Forces (so called "Kamikaze") flew off from.

Unknown to many in the world, many men of Korean, Taiwanese, and Chinese descent died as "Kamikaze" pilots.

The sun-observing Hinode satellite (formerly Solar-B) of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) was launched from the Uchinoura Space Center, Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan, on September 22, 2006 at 21:36 GMT, aboard the seventh in JAXA's series of M-V rockets. For two weeks the satellite carried out orbit adjustments, and is now in a sun-synchronous orbit, which allows it to observe the sun for uninterrupted periods lasting months at a time. Hinode contains three instruments dedicated to observing the sun: the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT), the X-Ray Telescope (XRT), and the EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS).
