DAVIDSON (NCAA) - Rarely has a player caused a stir in American college basketball the way Stephen Curry did last season with the Davidson Wildcats. A member of the United States silver-medal winning side at the 2007 FIBA U19 FIBA World Championship in Serbia, Curry, 20, is a junior at Davidson where he plays for coach Bob McKillop. His terrific performances helped propel the Southern Conference champions into the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament where they narrowly missed out on a place in the Final Four. Curry has this season taken over the point guard duties following the graduation of Jason Richards. Jeff Taylor of FIBA.Com travelled to North Carolina from Europe and met with Curry ahead of the Wildcats clash with Florida Atlantic in the Dicks Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. DAVIDSON (NCAA) - Max Paulhus Gosselin and Will Archambault left their marks on the basketball program at Champlain St. Lambert high school in Quebec and now the Davidson College duo is making an indelible impression on the Wildcats one of the hottest programs in the NCAA. The two played hugely important roles on the Davidson team that reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season, and theyre hoping to do the same in the 2008-09 campaign under coach Bob McKillop. Dont be surprised if senior Paulhus Gosselin and junior Archambault represent Canada at a FIBA Americas Championship in the very near future. Jeff Taylor spoke to both at the John M. Belk Arena ahead of Mondays game against Florida Atlantic in the Dicks Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. More videos on www.fiba.com & www.youtube.com/fibaworld

We take a look at the biggest story in the lesser tournament. Only the NIT can convert post-season success into a sense of shame.

I'm not sure if this analogy really holds up. I mean its not as if all of those passengers and freight booked for the NBA or something. If anything the decline of railroads should be compared to the decline of the NIT tournament in general. As it turns out, the NIT's demise was also a result of the expansion of US highways, which made the NIT's Manhattan location less advantageous.

As it turns out, the whole point is moot. Florida lost to UMass eliminating the possibility of a 2.5-peat.

Oh and this video was filmed on opening day. That would explain why Charlie looks so bright eyed and bushy tailed.

There is only one conan obrien replacement and that is the Baren of bedroom talk shows, Duke Fightmaster.
Eliot Spitzer is ashamed at the new sex tape which is rumered to hit the internet in the next few days. The new york governor has resigned after his affair with a call girl whom he replortedly paid over $5000 an hour. Ashley Alexandra Dupre was the girl and her myspace page got over 2 million hits in one day. Larry Flint has offered ashley one million dollars to pose nude in hustler. She has not yet replied to his offer. If she does decide to pose for the dirty magazine then she will have to bear all and be fully nude because according to Larry hustler readers want the whole enchilada. Dr. laura is blamer the new your gov wife for this stating that many times this is the wifes fault for not taking care of her husbands needs. We saw this happen to president clinton in the monica lewinski scandal. Dave patterson who will be the first black governor for new york has also addmited to having an affair. Corruption and sex is what you can expect when you tune into the duke fightmaster show. Who will replace conan obrien? Duke fightmaster will be the re4placement for obrien in 2009. Though nbc executives do not know this it is duke who will replace conan once conan takes over for leno. This is not a theory this is a fact because Duke knows the law of attraction and has listened to the audio version of the secret one hundred times. Duke controls the universe with his mind. Spitzer has an open invitation to join the duke fightmaster show and become a regular cast member which many people would literally kill for. Ashley Alexandra Dupre is also invited to pose nude in Duke's bedroom. Playboy magazine and penthouse will most likely offer money to Ashley Alexandra Dupre to get naked and tell her story. How to get a lot of views on the most rated section of youtube and get paid by youtube and become a youtube partner just check out policemen vs fireman and get trained by the tom ferry trainer ryan. Better than tony robins or any other inspirational speaker the duke fightmaster show can lift you to new heights. Spitzer is now staying away from myspace.

Following the 1944 collegiate basketball regular season, Utah was invited to both the NIT and the NCAA Tournaments. At that time, the NIT and NCAA Tournament were considered somewhat equal in stature.

New York City and the NIT won out over Kansas City and the Western Sectional of the NCAA Tournament.

But Utah lost its first game in the NIT to Kentucky. But all was not lost.

Coach Vadal Peterson told the Utes they had a choice of what they could do for the next few days. The team could spend a couple of days seeing the big city before they went home ... or Coach Peterson had a telegram from the NCAA inviting the Utes to Kansas City and the Western Sectional of the NCAA Tournament.

Utah would replace Arkansas, which had to withdraw because of an automobile accident.

Arnie Ferrin, Wat Misaka, Herb Wilkinson, Fred Sheffield, Dick Smuin, Bob Lewis and his brother Fred knew that if they won in Kansas City it would be back on the train to Madison Square Garden for the NCAA Championship.

They voted to play ... and play they did ... beating Missouri and Iowa State in Kansas City to earn another trip back east. It was back to New York to play Dartmouth for the championship.

The title game was tied 36-36 at the end of regulation.

Freshman Arnie Ferrin had 22 points, but it was Herb Wilkinson's one-hander just one second before the gun that gave Utah a 42-40 overtime win and its first NCAA title. But the Cinderella Story doesn't end there.

The Utes were then invited to play the NIT champs, St. John's in a Red Cross Benefit game for the combined National Championship ... some called it the mythical championship.

The glass slipper fit perfectly for the Cinderella Utes.

Ferrin had 17 points, Wilkinson added 11 and Utah won 43-36.

All that was left was the ticker tape parade .. not in New York City ... but back home in Salt Lake City.

n 1947, the National College Basketball Champion was crowned in Madison Square Garden.

The highly favored Kentucky Wildcats were the No. 1 seed in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), which was the national championship tournament in those days. The Utes entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed and had won their first game with Duquesne by only one point and their second with West Virginia by two. Meanwhile, Kentucky had breezed to the final game.

But the "Blitz Kids" from the West were the New York crowd favorite. Coach Vadal Peterson only used six players in the contest: Vern Gardner, Arnie Ferrin, Wat Misaka, Leon Watson, Fred Weidner and Lyman Clark.

While Ferrin and Big Vern shared offensive scores, it was the defensive play of Wat Misaka that captivated the crowd. Misaka held Kentucky's leading scorer Ralph Beard to just one point as Utah won by four (49-45).

Vern Gardner was the MVP and the Big Apple belonged to the Utes.

The No. 10 greatest moment in Utah Basketball history didn't win an NCAA or NIT title. It didn't even win a conference championship.

Yet it is easily one of the greatest moments ever in Utah Basketball. It was the first round game in the 1985 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament between the Runnin' Utes and Wyoming.

The Cowboys led 60-59, when Utah missed a last second shot. Wyoming's Fennis Dembo grabbed the rebound and was fouled with one second remaining on the clock. Game over. Not so fast ...

Utah was down by one with one second remaining and they don't have possession of the ball. But the Utes win the game. How is that possible?

The Wyoming player inbounds the ball by throwing it toward the Wyoming basket. Nobody touches it and it goes out of bounds. By rule, when nobody contacts the ball and an inbounds pass goes out of bounds, it is inbounded by the other team at the same spot.

Now, Utah has the ball out of bounds under its basket with one second left and down by one point.

Bobby Adair set a beautiful baseline pick for Manny Hendrix. Gale Gondrezick gets the ball to Manny in the corner, nearly handing the ball to him. Hendrix quickly buried the 22-footer from the corner and - with no 3-pointer in those days - Utah won 61-60 on Manny's Miracle.

In 1916, the headline read "Utah 5 Is Champion of World in Basketball." There was no NCAA back then, no NIT and no Final Four. College basketball was made up of conferences and Utah won the Rocky Mountain Conference with a perfect record of 6-0. It is still the only undefeated season in Utah history.

Then, it was on the train and off to Chicago to playin the AAU National Tournament. After a first-round bye, Utah beat the Olympic Athletic Club 34-15 in the semifinals. Center Roger Van Pelt, guards E. Lowell Romney and Bill Goodrich and forwards Rulon W. Clark and Clyde Packer led the team into the tournament.

Now, the Utes had to play the hometown favorite Illinois Athletic Club for the national championship and the Chicago Herald trophy. Here's a quote from the March 16, 1916 Salt Lake Tribune: "The crowd was the largest that ever saw a basketball contest, so far as records show. There were easily 3,500 screeching rooters on the main floor or peering down from the tiers of galleries in the First Regiment Armory."

Utah led 15-10 at halftime with Clark, Packer and Van Pelt supplying the highlights for Utah. But with 15 seconds remaining, the Illinois Athletic Club had a one-point lead until Clyde Packer (once again, quoting the Salt Lake Tribune) "got his hand on the ball and shot the sphere for Utah's final and deciding basket. The count 28 to 27. Utah wins the AAU National Championship and the Utah 5 is champion of the world."

Coach Bill Foster's final year at Utah was a memorable one. The Utes wrapped up the season in Madison Square Garden for the National Invitation Tournament. The Utes took care of Coach Foster's former team - Rutgers - by a tally of 102-89 in the first round. Utah defeated Memphis 92-78 in the second round to reach the NIT Final Four.Utah had a formidable inside-outside game with Mike Sojourner and Luther "Ticky" Burden. Plus the Runnin' Utes had a heady point guard in Tyrone Medley. While Ticky was doing the bulk of the scoring, Sojourner dominated the boards.Sojourner grabbed 19 rebounds in the semifinal victory over Boston College. Utah defeated the Eagles 117-93 as five players scored in double figures. Sojourner had 29 points and Burden poured in 28. Medley scored 17 and the wing men Chas Menatti and Doug Terry tacked on 12 apiece.Utah opened 1974 with a two-point win over Purdue in Salt Lake City on New Year's Day. Now, a little more than two months later, the Utes and Boilermakers were playing in Madison Square Garden for the NIT Championship.Utah led for much of the contest. Medley fouled out and future Naismith Award candidate Jeff Jonas came in off the bench. But in the end, Purdue was able to come back and upset Utah 87-81.The Boilermakers may have earned the championship trophy. But Utah walked away with all the rest of the honors. The Runnin' Utes were the highest scoring team in the history of the NIT. Mike Sojourner was named the tournament MVP, averaging more than 23 points and 18 rebounds in the four games. Ticky Burden was the leading scorer in the tournament, averaging 29.5 points per game.It was a magnificent team and a year to remember. 1974's NIT run is our No. 17 Greatest Moment in Utah Basketball History.

In 2002, the Yale Men's Basketball team posted its first 20-win season in 53 years. It shared its first Ivy League Championship since 1963. And when the team beat Rutgers in the first round of the NIT, it was the Bulldogs' first post season tournament win in the 107-year history of Yale basketball. But nevermind that. Many have tried to figure out why the Penn-Princeton rivalry is so heated, so emotional and so intense. Like its better-known counterparts, Duke-North Carolina in basketball and Army-Navy in football, Penn-Princeton has all the components of a good sports rivalry -- passion, respect for the opponent, distinct styles of play, close geographical proximity and two schools with very different identities. What distinguishes this rivalry from the others, however, is its winner-take-all element. Because the Ivy League is the only Division I conference not to have a post-season tournament, the regular-season winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. For Penn and Princeton, the loser, at best, can hope to get into the NIT. That's what happens when you play in a league that merits one NCAA bid. Only on rare occasions does the name of the winner not begin with the letter "P." No other league has seen two teams dominate the way Penn and Princeton have. Only six times since the Ivy League's inception in 1956 has the conference champion been a team other than the Quakers or the Tigers, which means that nearly every time these teams meet it is for the chance to play in the NCAA tournament. But the fact that these two schools have won 35 of the last 37 Ivy League men's basketball championships just scratches the surface of the war, for it doesn't just exist on the hardwood. The Penn and Princeton football teams played 31 times over 19 seasons beginning in 1876, but the 1894 game was so brutal that it led to a 41-year break before their next meeting in 1935. Penn-Princeton basketball is as good as it gets. It's the best rivalry in sports. And in the world of college basketball, it's the only one where the game really matters.

The Palestra, which has stood on its foundation for nearly 80 years and will continue for many more, may never see a better game than it did on that cold winter night in 2005. Princeton stunned the Palestra crowd, shutting down the Quakers and going early and often to centers Judson Wallace and Mike Stephens to take a 53-35 lead with 7:35 to play. But an 18-point lead soon became 17, then it was 15. When Andre Logan took an ill-advised leap to block Eric Osmundson's three-pointer, the resulting four-point play gave Penn fans a drop of hope. And what started as a drop would soon become a flood. The lead kept shrinking: nine, six, five, three, one... After a Logan free throw brought Princeton's lead back to two, Osmundson knocked down the two biggest free throws of his career, tying the game with 31 seconds to go. What the Quakers started in regulation, they emphatically finished in overtime. Princeton had been defeated, the pain of "Black Tuesday" had been softened, and Penn fans were left wondering whether they will ever see another one like it. Watch highlights from Penn's miracle comeback, and if it's your first time, welcome to the rivalry.
