Kishore Kumar is a singing legend in India just like Elvis in America. Unfortunately he died a few years ago.

This song "Chal chal mere haathi" is from the Hindi (an Indian dialect) movie called "Haathi mere saathi" which means "Elephants my friends" which was a mega hit and even many non Indians see it.

This song was also translated into Chinese and sung by a famous Singaporean singer Zhang Xiao Ying. Once I find her Chinese version, I will post it here.

For this karaoke video, his original voice and music is being used. But the scenes are not from the movie. They have been improvised and modified and acted by younger models.

It is a great movie but with a sad ending.
I never saw this movie as I was still an infant. But my mother who saw it told me the story as part of the bedtime stories to put me to sleep. It was such a touching story that I can still tell it back even though I never saw the movie. Okay, let me give it a try. Please correct me if there is anything inaccurate.

Here is the story from my memory bank:

There was a young boy whose parents died. His servants reassured him he will never be alone as those elephants that his parents raised are his friends. So he grew up spending a lot of time with those elephants.

When he grew up, he met a girl and their courtship were focussed around having a good time among the elephants.

So he married her and they have a son. It was the only child his wife could conceive and she could not have anymore after that.

Long story cut short - one day when he came home, he saw his elephant going near his infant son's cradle trying to shake it as it tramples its feet fiercely.

Without thinking twice, he got a gun and shot the elephant dead.

Alas, it's too late when he saw that there was a snake near his son's cradle and that the elephant was trying to kill the snake and save his son.

So he buried the elephant and put on the tomb something like "Elephants my friends".

Doesn't it make you cry to see this ending?
Wow, maybe I should rent that movie because I like that theme song anyway.

I offered Bananas to the elephant... and the Mahout shooed me away...Only people who offered money (which the elephant obediently gives to mahout) were blessed by elephant...(by its raised trunk)...
